Layering: 212-Sephora

It's my comeback mani... The first time I've painted my nails since my daughter was born in October! For someone who used to change her polish every single night... this was a huuuuuge step towards normalcy. I also got to take a bath (complete with a LUSH bath bomb) and read a few more chapters of Beautiful Redemption. EPIC. WIN.

I absolutely love wearing black nail polish. It just adds a little something extra to an outfit... a little mystery and edginess. I also love accent manis, so when I picked up 212-Sephora and What's a Tire Jack on Saturday night, I immediately knew how I would wear them!

What's a Tire Jack? is obviously a black creme polish. 212-Sephora is described on Sephora's site as an "opaque smoky black with iridescent gold and copper chunky glitter." I think that describes it fairly accurately, but I also get some flashes of green. Also, this came out WAY before SOPI's jewelry top coats, so the glitter is a bit smaller than what I would describe as "chunky." It's a bit irregularly shaped, more like what you'd find in a flaky polish.

Application was great. For this mani, I used Beauty Secrets Ridge Filler, 2 coats of SOPI What's a Tire Jack? 2 coats of SOPI 212-Sephora on accent nails, and Seche Vite to top it all off quickly and make it shine. Hey... I have a 13 week-old who does NOT understand the meaning of, "Sorry, honey... Mommy's nails are wet. Can you wait another 5 minutes and then commence your end-of-the-world-all-the-formula-is-gone-i'm-really-a-baby-pterodactyl-melt-down? Kay thanks!" Uh-Uh. She gets what she wants when she wants it and she knows it. She's got me wrapped around that tiny little pinky of hers, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Did I mention it was the first time I've worn nail polish since Peanut was born? You should've seen the look on her face when she saw my painted nails. She totally noticed the black polish and has made it a point to study my nails very closely while I hold her bottle. I know it won't be long before she's raiding my Helmer, and I'm kind of looking forward to it. :)

What's your favorite way to wear black polish?

SinfulColors Mauve On Seriotype

Whether you call it a seriotype or smooshy... (I prefer seriotype) there is just something about this style of manicure that I can't get enough of.

Hey there! It's been a little while, hasn't it? Sorry about that. Life happens, you know? Oddly enough, I didn't stop painting my nails during my hiatus. I kept taking pictures for a while, and then that just sort of stopped to. Weird how some habits die hard, while others don't change a bit.
Anyhoo... I found pictures of this mani in my files and couldn't believe I didn't share it! This was one of my favorite polishes last spring, and I recreated this exact seriotype/ a few times.
This mani started out with 3 fresh coats of Mauve On. I typically wrap my tips on the 2nd coat and add a 3rd for balance. Next, I ad…

I'm never one to pass up a pink polish and if the name of this doesn't say it all, the color definitely does! This is quite possibly the most perfect shade of light pink I've come across. And you all know how I love the color pink! <3

In case you missed my review of First Kiss, daniPro polishes were created by Manhattan Podiatrist Dr. Gary Evans. The formula is 5-free and the polishes are recognized by the American Podiatric Medical Association to promote good foot health.

Forever Pink is more of a crelly polish, so I had to use 5 coats to build up to the opacity you see in the pictures. Because of the sheer formula, it was a little patchy until about the 4th coat. But once this polish is opaque, it's a really gorgeous shade of pink and the crelly finish really made it shine. I've been into lighter shades on my toes lately…

Fishbowl Friday 073 // Recreation

Every now and then, I enjoy looking back over past manicures. Creatively, it's just neat to see how far I've come since the days I started. Oddly enough, when I chose this prompt, I knew exactly which manicure I wanted to recreate. Based loosely on Fishbowl Friday 027, today's seriotype nails are a RECREATION...

Looking back, I can honestly say that my seriotype game has come far since I first learned the method. One of the things that took me a while to master was the balance of nail polish finishes. While seriotypes made exclusively with creme polishes look cool, those made with a combination of different finishes really pop. There's more depth involved when you layer a metallic over a jelly neon and then add in some shimmer and glitter.
