Layering: The Mysterious Baby Motley

Here's a completely duochrome layering for your enjoyment... Duochrome glitter, flakies, and polish all mixed together in a GORGEOUS (if I do say so myself) layering!

I'm a little bummed that the sun wasn't out today. I really wanted to see what this manicure looked like in full-on bright sunshine! Despite the lack of sunlight, I got some GREAT pictures of this layering.

Polishes Used:

1 Coat Beauty Secrets Ridge Filler
3 Coats Orly Mysterious Curse
1 Coat Fingerpaints Motley
1 Coat Pure Ice Oh Baby!
1 Coat Fingerpaints Motley
1 Coat OPI Top Coat
1 Coat Seche Vite

Mysterious Curse is beautiful on its own. It's a blue/purple duochrome polish that is slightly sheer at one coat, but builds up to opacity quickly. I've had streaky duochrome polishes before, so I used 3 coats of Mysterious Curse and double-checked them under a lamp for streaks before moving on.

Next, I added a layer of Fingerpaints Motley, a blue/teal duochrome flaky polish. After that came Pure Ice Oh Baby, a blue/teal duochrome shimmer polish. Another coat of Fingerpaints Motley added depth to the mani. I added a coat of clear for shine and then a coat of Seche Vite to set it all in place.

Mysterious Curse is another polish that is hard for my camera to accurately photograph. From some angles it made it appear to be a flat blue, while other angles added too much red to the purple. Thankfully, Motley and Oh Baby photographed accurately.

I love how this layering turned out! Depending on which angle you're viewing my nails, you get a completely different look because of all the duochrome-y goodness. If you have these or similar polishes in your stash... you should totally give this layering a try! You won't regret it!!!

What's your take on duochrome polishes?

Fishbowl Friday 073 // Recreation

Every now and then, I enjoy looking back over past manicures. Creatively, it's just neat to see how far I've come since the days I started. Oddly enough, when I chose this prompt, I knew exactly which manicure I wanted to recreate. Based loosely on Fishbowl Friday 027 , today's seriotype nails are a RECREATION ...  Polishes Used: 1 Coat Fingerpaints Smooth Over Ridge Filler 3 Coats China Glaze Violet Vibes Essie Leggy Legend Pahlish Autumn People Pure Ice Get in Line SinfulShine Konstellation 2 Coats SinfulColors Clear Coat 1 Coat Seche Vite Looking back, I can honestly say that my seriotype game has come far since I first learned the method. One of the things that took me a while to master was the balance of nail polish finishes. While seriotypes made exclusively with creme polishes look cool, those made with a combination of different finishes really pop. There's more depth involved when you layer a metallic over a jelly neon and

This is quite possibly the most perfect shade of light pink I've come across. And you all know how I love the color pink! <3 In case you missed my review of First Kiss , daniPro polishes were created by Manhattan Podiatrist Dr. Gary Evans. The formula is 5-free and the polishes are recognized by the American Podiatric Medical Association to promote good foot health. Forever Pink is more of a crelly polish, so I had to use 5 coats to build up to the opacity you see in the pictures. Because of the sheer formula, it was a little patchy until about the 4th coat. But once this polish is opaque, it's a really gorgeous shade of pink and the crelly finish really made it shine. I've been into lighter sha

Fishbowl Friday 072 // Hard Candy

We're going to skip that whole part where we talk about how it's been a while, because well, it's been a really long while. I'm still trying to work out how to make room for blogging and juggle everything else, and it's definitely been a challenge. But know that I am working on it, and I do really, really miss it. This place has been my Quantum of Solace for a long time, and I'm not planning on letting it go anytime soon. That being said... for this week's prompt, I was happily surprised when I pulled HARD CANDY . This is probably one of the most iconic brands of nail polish, and it's certainly gone through it's own number of changes throughout the years. Who didn't want to own a bottle of Sky once they saw it on Alicia Silverstone's nails way back in the 90's? Last year, Hard Candy celebrated their 20th anniversary by bringing back some of their most iconic shades. The collection was a mix of five original shades and three new ones.
