5 Things: Peanut Edition (May 2013)

Shelly, Sammy, and Ray... <3 these Turtles

Coming to DVD in July!!!
1. TURTLES!!! But specifically, Sammy, Shelly, and Ray, the stars of A Turtle's Tale. Peanut LOVES this movie, and we watch it 5 or 6 times a weekend. Sometimes, I put it on for light noise. It's got a great soundtrack, and she loves all the different colors of the underwater scenes. I guess the adorably big-eyed turtles are probably a draw too. They are ah-dorable!

Training Sippy Cup

2. This works exactly like a bottle, but lets Peanut feel like a big kid holding her very own cup. She totally understands the concept and does pretty well holding it and drinking out of it.

Pete the Cat

Pete & Peanut

3. Peanut LOVES Pete the Cat. I downloaded the 4 stories they have online, burned them to a CD, and it's such a help in the car when my lil' Peanutty-Buddy turns into Fussypants on the long ride to and from work. Thankfully, the commute will be getting shorter soon... but for now, I <3 Pete too!

Big Girl Chair... Girly Tub

4. This high chair and tub from Granny... My Mom. Peanut adores her new high chair, because it means she can join in the fun during Wednesday night dinners. She also loves that Granny bought her a pink tub of her very own that she can use during visits. No more splashing in the bathroom sink for my little lady... She's moved on to splouncing... splashing and bouncing at the same time, which for her = MIND BLOWN. She LOVES it.

Buzz 'n Bite Teether

5. This Buzz 'n Bite Teether from Gigi... Mr. Sparkle's Mom. Peanut loves this teether to pieces. If you pull up on the purple part shown in the pic, it vibrates! Not only does she love chewing on it whether or not it's buzzing... She enjoys whacking it against her car seat along with the music that must be playing during our AM drive. Not sure if I have a tiny drummer, tiny dancer, or both?!?

OPI Paint my Moji-Toes Red

Today's manicure is a simple one thanks to a cold I'm battling. (achoo!) It's my favorite shade of red, one of the first OPI polishes my sister bought me, and one of the few polish bottles in my collection that shows noticeable use! Paint my Moji-Toes Red...

Paint my Moji-Toes* Red is from OPI's 2009 South Beach Collection, that year's spring/summer collection. It's very fitting, too. I definitely reach for this more in spring and summer than the other seasons. I've painted it on my hands and toes a LOT over the past 4 years. I've yet to add polish thinner to this bottle.

Polishes Used:

1 Coat Beauty Secrets Ridge Filler
3 Coats OPI Paint my Moji-Toes Red
1 Coat OPI Top Coat
1 Coat Essie Good to Go

So what makes Paint my Moji-Toes Red my FAVORITE red? Well, it's not an in-your-face red. It's a faded poppy red creme polish that goes really well with my skin tone. Did I mention that it's not like some other garish reds that just jump off your nails? Red polish can be intimidating... Paint my Moji-Toes Red melds that intimidating factor into my look seamlessly, instead of just scaring me away from the bottle.

What's your favorite red polish?

*In all honesty, this shade reminds me more of Toma-Toes than Moji-Toes... And now I'm hungry for a tomato sandwich. Yup. You read that correctly. Tomato, salt, pepper, mayo, and bread. YUM!

Layering: Zoya Tru

Some layerings practically paint themselves, and this one is an excellent example! Tru has a fine pink shimmer that was begging to be emphasized and turned into my first ever FLAKY gradient mani...

Polishes Used:

1 Coat Beauty Secrets Ridge Filler
2 Coats Zoya Tru
Sally Hansen Aisle Be There (Gradient)
Fingerpaints Flashy (Gradient)
1 Coat L'Oreal Lilac Coolers
1 Coat OPI Top Coat
1 Coat Essie Good to Go

Tru by Zoya is a "saturated, red-toned grape purple with speckled shimmer that reflects gold, orange and red." So naturally, I paired it with Aisle Be There from Sally Hansen and Fingerpaints Flashy. Aisle Be There is an understated fine pink shimmer in a clear base. Flashy is your "typical" flaky... It flashes from red to orange to green. (Think Essie Shine of the Times and Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure.)

Notice how I have "Gradient" behind Aisle Be There and Flashy? Well... I honestly lost count with my coats. I started with two coats of Aisle Be There on my tips, then added a coat of Flashy. From there, I alternated and piled on the layers, and you're guess is really as good as mine would be. "To taste" is really the best description I can come up with. Which in my case means, why use 5 coats when 20 will do? Just Kidding. (Sort of.)

I really like the subtlety of this manicure. The idea was just to punch up the shimmer in Tru, and Aisle Be There and Flashy were the perfect polishes to achieve this look. Looking at the pics now, I regret not trying a reverse gradient. The shimmer effects are incredibly forgiving if you're not so artistically inclined. I have quite a few shimmer, glitter, and flaky polishes in my collection that are just begging to be used in similar layerings. How does that old saying go... creativity begets creativity?!? :)

Layering: Provocative Pixie

L'Oreal Miss Pixie Jelly Glitter Sandwich

L'Oreal Miss Pixie Layering

L'Oreal Miss Pixie Jelly Glitter Sandwich MACRO

Miss Pixie is part of the L'Oreal Miss Candy collection. Other than pulling this polish out for these swatches and this comparison, it's been sitting quietly in my helmer. I was in the mood for a blue jelly glitter sandwich, so here you go!

Polishes Used:

1 Coat Beauty Secrets Ridge Filler
3 Coats L'Oreal Miss Pixie
1 Coat L.A. Girl Provocative
1 Coat Pure Ice Oh, Baby!
1 Coat L.A. Girl Provocative
2 Coats L'Oreal Miss Pixie
1 Coat OPI Top Coat
1 Coat Essie Good to Go

In all honestly, I liked this manicure way better last night than I do today. I'm not sure if it's the rain that's been falling all day, or just the lack of glow to this polish. I'm just not loving it.

I layered Miss Pixie over Provocative, thinking that it would change the color of the glitter, and it did change the fuchsia to a little more purplish fuchsia. The effect just wasn't as intense as I was going for. Oh, Baby added a little depth and definitely some interest to the manicure. This is just one of those layerings that worked better in my head than it does on my nails. (Don't you just hate it when that happens?)

What would you layer with Miss Pixie?

Peanut: 7 Months (and 8 days...)

Peanut turned 7 months old last Monday... 7 months! What happened to the tiny little peanut I brought home in October? She's growing way too fast... Her 4th tooth is coming in... she rolls all over the place, and she's literally minutes from figuring out how to crawl. She's one active little girl, and it's getting more difficult to capture the cuteness.

Take last week, for example.

I had her in a really cute onesie. In my defense, it was an 80ish degree day, and it totally FELT like summer. The bow on the back is adorable, so I was trying to snap a picture of her being a little turtle, showing off the bow. That just wasn't happening.

Hi, mommy!

What do you mean, turn over?

This book is yummy.

Pretty Bow!

One thing I've learned in the past 7 months and 8 days of parenting this little Peanut... It's totally her show. If she doesn't want to do it, she's not going to. She's got stubborn in her genes, but I love that about her. She's particular, and that's something we celebrate at Chez Sparkle.

So when I get random poses like this...

Peanut = Fabulous!

1,2,3... WIGGLE!

you just sort of learn to go with it...

I have a foot...

You don't want to see my foot?

but... it's my Foot!!!

strapping me in will achieve nothing, I tell you. NOTHING!

Smile?

What is this smile you speak of?

I have another foot...

Hahahaha... Foot!

and eventually, you'll get one of these... <3

I'm so funny!!! Wait a minute I forgot my foot... MULLIGAN!!!

Fooooooooot!

Are you still here?!?

We are done here.

Most of the time, she's cooperative for the camera, and if she's not... well, we just strap her in, and that works. For now. Sometimes. When she wants it to. The more mobile she gets, the more independent she wants to be.

You can't stop me!

I'm on my way...

If I could just...

My head is so heavy...

Can't you just...

help me out a little?

pwease Mommy?

I'll eat all my veggies, I promise!

What do you mean, not a veggie?!?

Yep. What can I say? She's a stinker, but she's MY little stinker. We've had a lot of fun together over the past 7 months... Not quite sure what I did to deserve such a sweet little girl, but I'm SOOOOO thankful for my little Peanutty Buddy. Love Her, LOVE HER, LURVE HER!!!

filling up her snugglemeter while I can... <3

BTDubbs... This is my first time linking up with anyone, so I'm hoping that I've done it correctly... :)
