OPI Pamplona Purple vs. Wet n Wild Through the Grapevine

I promised I would compare these two last week, so here they are...

OPI Pamplona Purple vs. Wet n Wild Through the Grapevine
Natural Light - Shade

OPI Pamplona Purple vs. Wet n Wild Through the Grapevine
Natural Light - Sunlight

OPI Pamplona Purple vs. Wet n Wild Through the Grapevine
Bottle Shots

Definitely NOT dupes.

I guess I was thinking that Pamplona Purple was lighter than it actually is, but it's not. These two aren't really that close at all. Don't let the sunlight picture fool you! I couldn't believe the shades looked almost identical in the photo. (My camera has purple issues.)

The good news is, both of these polishes are from core collections. So, if you want to buy both polishes, you totally can, because they're both still available.

Which shade do you prefer?

Fangirl Friday: 9.27.13

Fall is officially here! The weather hasn't cooled down too much, so that's been nice. A girl could get used to this kind of weather all.year.round!

1. Revlon Parfumerie Nail Polishes

c/o Nouveau Cheap

This week, Gotham Polish and Nouveau Cheap are both challenging my willpower. And this time, it's not just the shades of polish I'm loving... it's also the incredibly beautiful bottles they come in. I'll be needing a set to paint with and another set to display. Seriously. Touche, Revlon. Touche.

2. Yep, this Nicholas K look featuring Zoya polish rocks, but can we talk about the rings in this show? Particularly, this one?!?

I'm pretty sure it's a locket/poison ring, and that milky gray color? Love it!

3. Cadillacquer came out with a Dexter collection, and while I've never watched the show... check out this color!

c/o Fashion Polish

Umm yeah. I NEED this color. Isn't it gorgeous? Fashion Polish swatched the entire collection, and there's a whole bunch of unique colors. And while you're checking those out... Check out her swatches of Celia from Dance Legend's Chameleon Multichrome Collection. You know, actually... just check out Fashion Polish period. I have serious swatch-envy over here. :)...

4. Diamond Candles. They're made from soy, clean-burning AND all-natural. Plus, each candle has a ring inside... It could be worth $10, $100, $1000, or $5000. They've got some super yummy scents to choose from. This would make an awesome gift for the upcoming holidays, or anytime! I've already added a bunch of scents to my wishlist.

5. Nat the Fat Rat is now Hey Natalie Jean. I've mentioned her before. She blogs from NYC, and it's really cool to see her perspective of the city. She's a mom with a huge love for fashion and all things foodie with some culture and art sprinkled in, too. She writes with a very down-to-earth, friendly, girl-next-door vibe.

6. CoverGirl released the look for District 5...

and I can't help it... It really reminds me soooo much of the Misfits from Jem and the Holograms...

Happy Weekend!

Layering: Gilded Fields

I almost hesitate to call this a layering, because I'm not really sure that any of what's layered inside actually shows through. Nonetheless...

Strawberry Fields, Gilded Layering

China Glaze Strawberry Fields, Sinful Colors Gilded

China Glaze Strawberry Fields, Sinful Colors Gilded Layering

Polishes Used:

1 Coat Beauty Secrets Ridge Filler
1 Coat China Glaze Strawberry Fields
1 Coat SinfulColors Gilded
2 Coats China Glaze Strawberry Fields
1 Coat Borghese Clear Coat
1 Coat Seche Vite

I've been on this bright polish kick, and was thinking pink, so... naturally, that meant the hottest pink in my stash. Strawberry Fields is part of the core China Glaze collection. It's glowing hot pink with a pretty gold shimmer mixed in. Definitely a must-have in your collection.

SinfulColors Gilded is really pretty. It's got fine gold and red glitter in a clear base. And in this layering, it got completely lost. Seriously. Strawberry Fields ATE it. Had I used more than 1 coat of Gilded, the results might've been different, but I didn't, so they weren't.

So this mani didn't turn out exactly how I expected, but I still like it. I'll definitely have to remember Strawberry Fields for this Effie Trinket mani I've been meaning to try. I think the gold shimmer would lend itself nicely to a pretty gold gradient. :)

What do you think of Strawberry Fields?

SinfulColors Glitz & Glittered

This display popped up at my local Rite-Aid the other day. I've been looking forward to a lot of Fall and Winter collections, so it was nice to finally see one in person!

SinfulColors Glitz & Glittered
Ice Dream, Silver Belle, Charmed, Unwrap Me, Decadent, Holiday Rebel, Gilded, Full Spectrum

Glitz & Glittered is SinfulColors Holiday 2013 Collection. Not sure if it will be the only one, but it's a decent collection. And that's coming from someone who has a TON of glitter polishes. Check out the shades I picked up...

SinfulColors Glitz & Glittered Collection
Sunlight: Holiday Rebel, Gilded, Decadent, Charmed

Super sparkly, n'est ce pas? J'adore! This collection honestly has me ready for eggnog, trimming the tree, wrapping presents... all of it!

Charmed is a sparkly micro-glitter that's mostly silver. You can see very subtle flecks of color here and there, but it's mainly silver. I didn't have anything like this in my collection, so I opted to pick it up, but I've read that it is part of their core collection. No need to rush out for this particular one.

Decadent features fine and medium red hex glitters in a clear base. I picked it up because it looked more pink than red in the store. Seeing it swatched and comparing it with another red glitter in my collection, it might be a tinge lighter, but it's definitely red.

Gilded is the first must-buy shade from this collection. Fine gold and red glitter in a clear base... It's Gryffindor for your nails... A pretty and subtle shade, and even though it didn't really show up in my latest layering, I still like it. These finer glitters are often overlooked in favor of more chunky glitters. I'm really glad I picked this one up. I think it would make for a great glitter gradient!

Holiday Rebel is the other must-have, must-buy polish from the Glitz & Glittered Collection. Did you miss out on Party Hearty from China Glaze? I did too. And I've been looking for something similar ever since. This isn't an exact dupe, but I think it satisfies my lemming. Holiday Rebel packs in the red glitter, while Party Hearty definitely favored the green. Still. Holiday manicures just got one step simpler because of this polish! (Merry Christmas to me...)

Polishes Used:

1 Coat Beauty Secrets Ridge Filler
2 Coats Wet n Wild Through the Grapevine
1 Coat Borghese Clear Coat
1 Coat Seche Vite

Okay... so now that I'm looking at this polish, I'm honestly wondering if it's a dupe for OPI's Pamplona Purple. I'll have to double check, but I'm thinking if not dupes, they're very close.

Budding Romance was starting to look a bit worn, but I still wanted a bright color on my nails. I know it's officially Fall and that's a bit backwards, but hakuna matata, right?

Through the Grapevine is a mid-toned berry purple from Wet n Wild's core collection of megalast polish. You can find it at pretty much any drugstore... CVS, Rite-Aid, and Dollar General are just a few that come to mind. I'm pretty sure I picked mine up at CVS, because the bulk of my drugstore polish hails from there.

So, I'm loving the purple and everything, but I think it needs something. Stripes, dots, glitter... I'm not quite sure. Could work as a base for tomorrow's mani... Could be a One Day Wonder. Hmmm...

What do you think of Through the Grapevine?

China Glaze Budding Romance

This is one of those love it or hate it colors... and I love.Love.LOVE it! <3

Polishes Used:

1 Coat Beauty Secrets Ridge Filler
3 Coats China Glaze Budding Romance
1 Coat Borghese Clear
1 Coat Seche Vite

Budding Romance is officially my new favorite green polish. I mean... just look at it! I have a soft spot in my heart for this yellowish pea-green color that some people call olive, while others equate it to what you might find in a soiled diaper.

Po-tay-to, Po-tah-to...

This green is really vibrant. It makes me think of fresh cut grass and squishy moss. The jelly finish gives it a glowiness... Like when you hold a leaf up to the sky, and the rays of the sun illuminate it. That's the feeling this polish gives me. It's different... fresh... invigorating, even.

I have a thin flyaway sweater in this EXACT color. I tried it on because I felt bad for it. (Seriously!) Every now and then while I'm shopping, I pick up something completely different and out of my norm, try it on, and end up LOVING it. I highly recommend it! I mean, I can't tell you how many times I've picked out something that looks great on the hanger, but when I try it on... it looks awful! Something that doesn't look so hot on the hanger just might end up being your new fave! Kinda makes sense, doesn't it? Try it sometime. I dare you!

Fangirl Friday: 9.20.13

Yammie's Noshery Pretzel Pizza Rolls
c/o Yammie's Noshery

1. Thanks to Mr. Sparkle, I have a special place in my heart (and stomach) for pizza rolls. Lazy Sundays, movies, snuggles, and pizza rolls. Yep. I'm superhard to please, y'all. Anyhoo... I stumbled on THIS recipe, and I cannot WAIT to try and make these little suckers. Yammie's Noshery is officially the first food blog on my bloglovin' feed. Check it out... clever writing AND great recipes... Book.Mark.All.The.Things. :)

2. Sweaters with Elbow Patches...

Elbow Patch Sweaters
c/o Say Yes to Hoboken, A Pair and a Spare DIY, Superficial Girls, *
I've wanted to make one of these for a while now, and there are TONS of tutorials on Pinterest and other DIY sites. I'm still not sure of what shape I like best, but this is definitely on my level of craftiness and BONUS! You don't need a sewing machine, which is good, because I don't have one!

3. A LOT of Fall/Winter/Spring Polish Collections have been announced, and I just keep on adding them to the Wish List.

Zoya Black Swan, Boy Toi, Ballet Babe
c/o Zoya via Facebook

Zoya's Zang Toi Collection doesn't come out 'til Spring 2014, but that didn't stop me from adding Boy Toi and Ballet Babe to the list.

If G from Nouveau Cheap would ever stop blogging about nail polish... Well, I don't know what I'd do. I'd certainly have more money in my wallet... The 12-Piece Disney Villains Set from e.l.f. is definitely calling my name.

And while I'm on the subject of polishes that I want.Want.WANT...

Can I just whine for a minute that I have YET to spot ANY of Sally Hansen's Rent the Runway Xtreme Wear Limited Edition glitter polishes in the wild? Where are they all hiding? If you know, and you're not telling, we're so not friends anymore. Just kidding. Seriously, though... where are these hiding? I was going to try a 3-month No-Buy soon, and this collection is stressing me out 'cause it's nowhere to be found! Just check out these swatches, and these... I mean, really. Why are these glitterbombs hiding from me? So.Not.Fair.

4. Sparkly.Tights. Need I say more?!? Loooooook...

Tights with Sparkles
c/o Urban Outfitters
They're soooooo sparkly. And shiiiiiiny. (I like the shinies.)

5. Want to be Ke$ha for Halloween? They've got an app for that...

c/o Urban Outfitters

Just kidding! But Urban Outfitters does have a Rock Star Glitter Kit that can help. They didn't have this when I was Ke$ha for Halloween 2010. Back then, most people had no idea who I was supposed to be!

And speaking of Halloween...

I have no idea what I want to be, let alone what Peanut is going to be. Something cute that will get me her a lot of candy. But I don't want to go too crazy. Any ideas?!?

Hope you have a great weekend! Technically, it's the last one of the summer!

*It's driving me crazy, but I can't find the link to this anywhere. If you know where it comes from, please let me know so I can remedy this!

Layering: Berry Flashy Night

Purple Jelly + Glitter + Flakies = 3rd official attempt at recreating Cult Nails Unicorn Puke...

L'Oreal Berry Nice Layering

L'Oreal Berry Nice Layering

L'Oreal Berry Nice Layering

Polishes Used:

1 Coat Beauty Secrets Ridge Filler
2 Coats L'Oreal Berry Nice
2 Coats Fingerpaints Flashy
2 Coats OPI Last Friday Night
2 Coats Fingerpaints Flashy
2 Coats L'Oreal Berry Nice
1 Coat Seche Vite

This is a complete and total glitterbomb of a layering with some flakies thrown in for good measure.

Berry Nice is the purple jelly from L'Oreal's Miss Candy Collection. Fingerpaints Flashy is your "traditional" flaky polish that flashes from red, to orange, to yellow, to green. I used 2 layers of Last Friday Night in the middle for subtle sparkle, then added another 2 coats of Flashy to the party. With 2 coats of Berry Nice on top of all that, the glitter in Last Friday Night turned teal, blue, and violet, and the flakes in Flashy turned reddish-pink. Preeeeeetty!

This layering might have more in common with Fowl Play than Unicorn Puke, but I still really like it. And the quest to recreate Unicorn Puke continues... :)

What do you think of Berry Flashy Night?

Fangirl Friday: 9.13.13

Woohoo! It's Friday and the weather is GORGEOUS!

CoverGirl Catching Fire Capitol Collection Glosstinis

c/o Nouveau Cheap: Sulfur Blaze, Rouge Red, Pyro Pink, and Seared Bronze.

1. G at Nouveau Cheap ALWAYS has the scoop on the latest... So, it's no surprise that she has posted pics of the first and second CoverGirl Hunger Games Catching Fire Capitol Collection Displays. If you've been waiting with bated breath for this collection, head over there toutdesuite to check it out! Even better? Swatches are on the way! (Yes, I'll be stalking her blog allweekendlong.)

2. Forget the Galaxy Note II or III or whatever... I'm back to being an Apple Fangirl again!

16 GB iPhone 5s or 32 GB iPhone 5c?

So here's the thing... I really liked my Galaxy Note when I first got it. Honestly, I did. But then I upgraded from Ice Cream Sandwich to Jelly Bean, and my Note was noticeably slower. And then its battery up and decided it would decide when it would charge, thankyouverymuch. So, I'm running out of juice, like. all. the. time. Ugh. I'm so over Android. I want my Apple back, Apple back, Apple back...

3. I FINALLY found a great Chambray Shirt... at Old Navy!

It's their mid-tone chambray, and it was on sale for $20! Now if only the weather would get cool enough to let me wear it... :)

Whilst shopping, Peanut was entertained by a lovely plush Koala Security Blanket, and may or may not have eaten half of the price tag. (She totally did.)

Happy Weekend!

5 Things: September 2013

So, we're saying goodbye to summer and all of that, and I feel like I'm crashing into Fall. It's like I've got a parachute, but I'm just floating all over the place. A little bit here, a little bit there. Sheesh. Can I get a direction already?

I'm not particularly liking the way this current time-frame is feeling... so, I thought I'd be a little bit constructive with this month's 5 Things. My creativity has blustered off on a completely different path with its own parachute, so... yeah. I was going somewhere with that. I promise.

This blog was originally started to help me find me again, and there are some days I still find myself lost altogether. I'm not going to lie. Some days it's manageable, other days, I just want to crawl under the covers on my bed and hide.

I have a little Peanut that depends on me, and Mr. Sparkle wouldn't take too kindly to that. He didn't sign up for ostrich duty. SO... we carry on. Because it's all you can do sometimes.

This month, I'm skipping the good, ditching the bad, and heading straight for the downright ugly.

1. I can be a critical person, but I dislike being critiqued. I'm bad at being critiqued. I missed that class when we learned how to deal with critiques. It's annoying, and I know others are annoyed by it. I'm sensitive. Heart on my sleeve and all that, and I take things personally when you're not supposed to.

2. I'm the youngest of 2. I'm kind of a brat, and I'm selfish. This is one of my most frustrating attributes. I care so much about everyone in my life... I love them with all of my heart and all that is me... but I'm bad at showing it. Sometimes, I think it's enough to just tell them, or I assume they already know, and that's just not cool. Not.At.All.

3. My self-esteem is either really great, or extremely low. I'm either the most awesomest person you've ever met, or I suck and so does everything I do. I might be the best mom, but I'm the worst wife... or, I'm a sweet daughter, but a crap sister. At times, life seems so black and white, and I can't find the middle ground.

4. Improving myself is very important to me. I truly believe that we're constantly learning, changing, growing, understanding, failing, and falling, but also getting right back up again. Journey, people. It's the journey...

...and it's not always fun.

5. I get stuck in Procrastination Station. A Lot. Like right now... I'm just... stuck.

There are times it might seem like I have all my shit together, but in all reality, no one does. BUT... I really don't want to dwell on the negative... I try so hard to make this blog a place of inspiration. A place for positivity. I want to find a way to take the negative and turn it into something POSITIVE. That's very important to me, as well.

SO, All of that being said... here's a couple ideas and things I've come up with to try and REMEDY some of these issues. I know that it's not going to be an overnight thing. Hell, it took me 32 years to get to right now, so it's gonna take a little time. But, bear with me, okay? Please?

1. Critiques don't have to be negative. Instead of getting defensive and saying, "How dare you!" I will LISTEN to what's being said COMPLETELY before sending out for reinforcements. Also, instead of reacting immediately, I will PROCESS what's being said in context before I react flippantly and freak the freak out.

2. I could say that I've been allowed to be selfish for far too long, but that wouldn't be fair at all. It's not up to other people to make me into a more selfless person. It's up to me. I have a couple ideas coming up on how to hold myself accountable, and it starts with TRYING. TRY. TRY. TRY. TRY. TRY. Thoughts and Ideas are great... but it's putting them into practice... not just thinking them that makes it a sweet gesture. I mean, really? That's just stupid. Shame on me.

3. A healthy self-esteem would be awesome. Being such a boomerang has given me whiplash. I can't even imagine what it's done to everyone around me. "That's just Sarah" is no longer an acceptable excuse, peeps. I'm not royalty because my name means Princess, and I'm not worthless just because someone is upset with me. balance, Balance, BALANCE. I'm trying soooooooooo hard to find mine.

4. I'm trying, I swear. There are days I feel great about the progress I've made, and days I feel like I f*ck it all up consistently. I'm going to make mistakes, I just wish I didn't make the same ones over and over again. In the same regard, I'm never going to be perfect. I just wish I could be... Better. You know?

5. You know that scene in the Matrix when Keanu Reeves is stuck in that loop of a station? That's how I feel. I try to pick up one area of my life, and the rest falls apart, and I'm back where I started. I fix another part of my life, only to let everything else drop, rinse and repeat. Somedays I really feel like I'm never going to get it all together. How can you without a direction? You TRY. TRY. TRY. TRY. TRY. ANYTHING. EVERYTHING. Just not NOTHING. It's the only way I can see to remedy the problem.

Okay, so let me get all superhonest up in here for a minute... A lot of blogs I follow are written by bloggers who suffer from depression. (Some medicated, others not.) Lately, I'm not so sure if I'm suffering from depression, or suffering from lack-of-knowing-what-the-f-to-do-with-the-rest-of-my-life-itis. Maybe the medicine isn't working. Maybe I don't need it anymore, maybe I never needed it. I don't know.

It's like, the older I get, the less I'm sure of. When I was 21, I was going to be Editor of Cosmo, live fabulously in New York, you know, the whole bit.

That was the farthest I ever envisioned myself, and I'm so nawt there. But, that's the thing, and I tend to keep forgetting it. It was never really about the destination. It's been the journey all along. It's who we spend it with, the time we spend, the moments we share. A journey can't happen if you're standing still. You'll never arrive at your destination if you don't start moving. Objects at rest... you know.

I've been standing still for WAY too long.

It's time to try.

Try Something.
Try Anything.
Try Everything.

Follow Me Friday 9.6.13

Okay... so I'm finding a real lack of creativity at the moment. What's with that? Is it because we're in between two seasons? Is my soul already mourning the loss of warm, summer weather and flip-flops on my feet? The weather has been getting cooler, but I'm kinda ready to wear my boots.

I dunno.

So, rather than bore you with a forced and contrived post... Why don't you click around and see what I've been up to on the interwebs lately. 'Cause you know... shameless plugplugplugs and all! :)

we <3 it

Happy Friday... and have a great weekend!
