Fishbowl Friday *002*

As mentioned on Wednesday, this week's prompt was TROPICAL...

Tropical Nails

Orly Neon Gradient

Orly Neon Gradient

Tropical Nails

Polishes Used:

1 Coat Beauty Secrets Ridge Filler
3 Coats Orly Tropical Pop
2 Coats Orly Ablaze
2 Coats Orly Va Va Voom
1 Coat Orly Hot Tropics (thumbs only)
2 Coats NYC Sweet Candy
1 Coat Essie Good To Go

Initially, this is not at all what I had in mind. Thanks to issues with Sweet Candy in yesterday's mani, (which I didn't post because it was so far beyond a failicure) I regrouped last night and came up with the idea of a neon gradient. I also reached for Sweet Candy again, and my mani suffered for it. What is it with that polish and my DNA right now?!? O.o

Ahem. Anyway.

I tried sponging this gradient, and that just wasn't working thanks to the semi-matte formula on Va Va Voom. It didn't want to cooperate at all with the sponging process. So... I removed everything and started over. Because I love doing that!!! (said no one, ever.)

The second time around, I figured I'd just try to freehand the gradient with the brush, and I think it worked for the Ablaze to Va Va Voom part of the gradient, but the Tropical Pop to Ablaze part looks a liiiiittle stripey and kinda harsh.

Originally, I thought I'd cap off my tips with Hot Tropics, but my nails are nubs, so I only had room on my thumbs. That didn't really turn out how I planned either. Pretty sure my thumbs would've looked better without it!

But enough about the gradient... on to my issues with NYC Sweet Candy! Something about the formula, my DNA, and the combination of polishes I've been using in the past 2 days just has not been working out. I had major wrinkly smudges yesterday, the result of the Seche Vite drying waaaaaay before all the layers underneath. This is how Seche Vite works, it just apparently got to Sweet Candy and majorly stalled. Boo.

Given that issue, last night I figured I would switch to Essie Good to Go, and wouldn't have the same problem. I'm not sure why, but if a polish bubbles or has issues with one of the two fast drying top coats, I can usually switch to the other and the problem is fixed. Not so last night... Not. So. At. All.

The same thing happened! Wrinkly smudges!!! Add in some polish pooling, and I'm disappointed in how these turned out, not gonna lie.

That being said, though... I looooove the brightness! It's kind of fun to be wearing such a bright pop of neon on such a gray, cloudy, chilly day! Also... it being Halloween and all, my nails do look a little festive. So... yay for that, I guess?!? I'll post the next prompt early next week, but for now, Happy Friday and Happy Halloween! Hope you have a GREAT weekend!!!

State of the Sparkle *006*

It's Wednesday and I'm wearing pink... are you?

I drew the prompt for this week's Fishbowl Friday...

I know it's only week 2, but this is what I LOVE about this whole Fishbowl Friday thing... TROPICAL is probably the furthest thing from my mind when it comes to nails and October! I'm so boots, scarves, and salted caramel at the moment!!! What shall I make from this prompt? You'll have to check back Friday to find out!

Tried to get Peanut into the whole boxed Mac N Cheese thing earlier this week, because kids love that stuff, right? Nope. Not my Peanut. I even got the ones shaped like goldfish, thinking it would entice her, and she wanted nothing to do with it. However, I discovered that with a little bit of spaghetti sauce, meatballs, a ton of garlic, and half a ton of ground red pepper... it's actually pretty tasty.

We're not even going to talk about all the things I've been pinning lately... Why is it that as soon as I'm on a No Buy, it seems like the best idea to "window" shop all the stores online. In multiple tabs. I'm filling up virtual carts like someone is actually going to buy me all this stuff! Hahahahahaha... no. But still...

I was really excited to see the rocket launch last night. I calibrated the compass on my phone. Found the perfect location on the front porch. Brought Peanut and Granny Sparkle outside with me. So disappointed that it blew up. Maybe next time?!?

Zoya is hosting a really fun giveaway right now where you can make your own polish. One lucky winner will get the polish they designed! Spare a vote for Luna Rue and Jayne? Please?!? Thanks!!!

Since Friday is Halloween, we'll be taking Peanut trick-or-treating later this week. Then, there's a party at school on Friday, and a family kiddo party that evening. Pictures to come, I promise! Okay, maybe just one picture while you wait...

how else would you wear a bucket?

Speaking of pictures... I really need to start some sort of photo "dump" post (for lack of a better word.) Not because we're lacking in the Pics O' Peanut department around here, but I can't ever download new updates on my phone, that's how many pictures I take hoard. I never seem to remember to go through the pics and delete them. Also, I'm addicted to shooting Sparklegirl in "burst" mode, because she's a wiggly little critter. Suzanne chronicles her adorably cute little bebehs in this fashion, and I love those posts. She does them weekly and is currently on No. 208! I'm still brainstorming how I could do something similar and what I'd call the series, because I overthink EVERYTHING that needs a name. Suggestions?!?

Last, but certainly not least, not in the very least, least... National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo for short) begins this Saturday!!! What is NaNoWriMo you might ask?!? Well... it's this crazy month of writing with absolute reckless abandon in the hopes that at the end of it all, you've got at least 50,000 words or more, just around the length of typical published novel.

http://nanowrimo.org/participants/seizethesparkle
Add me as a writing buddy... seizethesparkle!

This year, I've got a vague idea of how my story can start and a really rough plot, and that's about it.  And when I say really rough... I mean, like... r...o...u...g...h... Little miss protag doesn't even have a name yet! So... less of a direction than last year, but that's the point. It's supposed to really put you under the gun and get you creating. 1,667 words per day to be exact.

Just how many words is 1,667? A lot. (This entire post contains 727 words. Not nearly as many as you would think!) It's really difficult! Last year was the first year I really participated, and I didn't come close to finishing. I ended with 16,469 officially, 19,562 unofficially. I forgot to upload my last little spurt of writing before November was over. Soooo... this is going to be a really big challenge for me!

In addition, last year, I ended up only posting 4 times during November. I really hope to post waaaaay more than that this time around. So... those are my goals. "Win" NaNoWriMo and keep the blog alive.

I think that's it... for now, anyway!

I don't normally try to wear pink on Wednesdays. Usually, it just happens. In the interest of full disclosure, I took these pictures yesterday, but didn't get around to posting them until today. Fear not, I still have this lovely color on my nubs. I've actually been wearing this mani since SUNDAY! I know... 4 days is SUCH a record for me. On Monday, I managed to pinch a nerve in my neck. But not just any nerve, that especially lovely one that is used for every single movement your neck makes, and then some more!  My Monday night mani was scratched in hopes that it would feel better on Tuesday...

...and. It. Felt. Worse.

So... Tuesday night mani was cancelled, too. In its place, a generous helping of Icy Hot was applied to my neck. Once I smelled like quite the odiferous panda snack, I went to bed.

It definitely feels better today, but I'm not 100% recovered. Still some zingers when I move certain ways, but better enough that tonight's mani is totally gonna happen. YAAAAAAAY!

Enough about me, though... let's talk about this pink polish from NYC that I got at Dollar Tree. It came in a blister pack with NYC Demon Glow for $1. I totally realized upon arriving home that I don't own a black light, nor do I frequent any places which do... So.........

Faithful Fuchsia! It's a really gorgeous bright pink, and I'd be lying if I didn't say that I pawed through the packs to find a Demon Glow/Other NYC Polish combo that I liked and knew I'd probably wear. I didn't think I would wear it so soon, but I am a sucker for all things hot pink when it comes to my nails.

Application was awesome. I don't own a whole lot of NYC polishes, and I frequently forget how easily their formula applies. Coverage was amazing, too. Really close to being a one coater, but just not quite there. I did three coats because yet again, I forgot to wrap my tips until I was finished with coat numero dos. I really need to put a reminder post-it on my mani desk. O.o

Sooooo... yeah. Pink for Wednesday, and Pink for the 2nd prompt in Crumpet's 52 Week Pick N Mix Challenge, which I am now even further behind on than last time.  Happy Wednesday!!!

HNB2014: Week 2

I survived one full week! In all honesty, though... the Holiday No Buy  is easy at first. It gets harder the longer you go along! There hasn't been too much tempting me this Fall. That could be a good thing, or it could mean that I'll get pounded with lemmings once all the holiday collections debut! I haven't even added that many polishes to my wishlist in the past week...

Essie Pinking About You
KBShimmer Kringle All The Way
KBShimmer Let's Sleigh Together
KBShimmer Mauve on Over
OPI Christmas Gone Plaid
OPI First Class Desires
Serum No 5 Work Hard Play Hard (which sold out really quickly!)

Last week's leftovers have been added to my polish fund... $12.75! My 12 Treats Fund is now at a whopping $17.22 and growing! It's progress and I'll take it!!!

Whilst shopping, I got the cutest little shirt for Peanut, and I need a matching tunic, STAT! Or a scarf...

I got her some pants, too... because her pants seem to disappear just as readily as all the socks and my hairties. Have I told you about my house elf with 14 ponytails and a nest of socks and pants? Because I totally have one... I just haven't seen it in a while and it doesn't come when called... O.o

Other than that, I was pretty good! I bought some popcorn for snacks, and some snackage for the Halloween party at Peanut's school. Oh, and some grape tic-tacs because I'm soooo addicted. But yeah... so far, so good!

Fishbowl Friday *001*

Have I mentioned how much September's 31 Day Challenge inspired me? Not only did it introduce me to a bunch of awesome new bloggers and blogging groups... it really made me think creatively in different ways than what I was used to. It left me wondering... how could I cultivate that creativity after #31DC2014 was over?!

I'm proud to announce my first weekly series......... Fishbowl Friday!!!

Fishbowl Friday

After scouring various nail art challenges online, I found a TON of prompts! Some were similar to the prompts I had used during #31DC2014 and some were completely new and different. I even threw in some new ones of my own! There were colors, finishes, styles, techniques, brands, shapes, themes, patterns... sooooooo many prompts! I made a list and I had almost 200! That was just waaaaaay to many to incorporate into one challenge though, and I really wanted to do something different...

So I thought to myself... how fun would it be to just pick a prompt out of a container and paint my nails accordingly?  Done and done.............. Fishbowl Friday was born!

Seize the Sparkle's Fishbowl Friday

Originally, I planned to just pick the prompt at random on a Thursday night.  Buuuuut, then I realized that my schedule and some of the more involved prompts don't really allow for that. Rather than just let a good idea go... I decided that I would pick my Fishbowl Friday prompt on either Tuesday or Wednesday each week.

That being said... I did pick my inaugural prompt last night. Next week, I'll be picking as stated above, promise! Honestly, it took me longer than I thought to write out all the prompts and fold them up. I know, I know... I could've just typed them, but where's the fun in that?!? First up, I have BRIGHT nails... (brought to you by my iPhone 5s)

1 Coat Beauty Secrets Ridge Filler
3 Coats Rainbow Honey Tayabak
1 Coat Color Club Clear Coat
1 Coat Seche Vite

Tayabak actually caught my eye because of how bright it looks on Rainbow Honey's website and in swatches. It's also such a pretty, bright, minty green... I had to have it! I ordered it along with October's mystery bag right before my No Buy began.

My experience with 488nm was enough to make me want every single creme polish Rainbow Honey makes. The formula on Tayabak was no different. The brush was easy to work with, and I could've stopped at 2 coats if I wouldn't have forgotten to wrap my tips. Daydreaming while polishing leads to many, many coats of polish for me.

I thought about doing gradients on the accent nails, or adding a little glitter, but decided against it. Maybe tonight? I don't know if I want to put anything over this gorgeous color!

Next week, I'll have another random prompt from the fishbowl for your Friday! Until then... hope you enjoy the rest of this Friday, and Happy Weekend!

Peanut: 2 Years

Chez Sparkle (both locations) has been partying it up, celebrating the birth of this little Peanut for the past 10 days!

In honor of my little birthday girl, (and because a Peanut post is waaaaaaay overdue) here's 10 things about this little sparklegirl right now...

1. She's got Birthday FEVER and it's probably totally all my fault. I'm not alone, but I'll take most of the blame. She's singing Happy Birthday, craving Birthday Cake, (who doesn't?!?) and wants to blow candles out All. The. Time. It's cool that this time around, she really gets what's going on.

2. Icing. Forget the cake. The icing is really what this little girl is ALL about!

3. There's a budding baker in there! She totally helped my sister with the icing...

...I was showering during "decorating" time, so I have no idea just how much icing was consumed, and I probably don't want to know. But I swear... these were the best cupcakes I've ever tasted. Q&A Cupcakery can go into business anytime. I volunteer as taste-tester!

4. She LOVES her new View-Master, and I honestly didn't know they still made them!

...it even still gets stuck sometimes, just like the ones did when I was little! Peanut doesn't quite understand why she can't bend the wheels, but that doesn't stop her from really enjoying her new "camera."

5. If I thought she was independent before, that trend is only continuing to grow. "I do" and "self" are becoming her faaaaaavorite words. Most of the time, they're followed by "Mommy help..." and that just makes for thee warmest of fuzzies!

6. Her personality traits are starting to define themselves, and she can be impatient. Wonder where she gets that one from, Mr. Sparkle?!?

is the pizza EVER coming?!?

7. There's definitely still a lot of love for Elmo! Sparklegirl got an Elmo balloon and an Elmo t-shirt...

8. ...but Frozen is a ginormous favorite right now! I got her an Elsa nightgown that she absolutely adores and would probably wear all the time if Peanut had her way. During that same shopping trip, she picked out bright pink Anna heels and a tiara from my sister to go with it...

...and while searching for those images, I found this Anna nightgown...

...Peanut definitely needs this for Christmas. They're sold out online and Kohl's didn't have any in stock, or else I would've bought this one for her, too. Ohhhhh, and I almost forgot... I downloaded the Frozen album for her so she'd be able to sing along to more songs than just Let it Go in the car! She's really liking Love is an Open Door at the moment. I think she admires Anna's spunk! ;)

9. In addition to icing... she's loving chicken nuggets, pizza, noodles, and broccoli lately. "Pee Bee Butter" is also a big favorite. Her beverage of choice is usually milk.

10. Most days, she's too busy to smile or say cheese for photographs, let alone stand still! She's constantly moving, so I tried asking her to "look happy" and I got this...

and this...

and this...

and most recently...

... here's to keeping it consistent, kid! Happy Birthday my sweet little Peanut...I'm not thrilled with how quickly the time has been passing by, but watching you grow smarter, sweeter, and sassier by the minute has been the most incredible adventure so far! Cheers big ears! You are my heart and I love you forever-ever! Mugga Mugga!!!!!!

Stamping: Radioactive Prosecco

SinfulShine Prosecco Stamping Manicure

Stamping with SinfulShine Prosecco

Materials Used:

1 Coat Beauty Secrets Ridge Filler
3 Coats SinfulShine Prosecco
1 Coat Color Club Clear Coat
1 Coat Seche Vite

1 Day of Wear

Bundlemonster Plate BM-414
Bundlemonster Plate BM-416
Bundlemonster Plate BM-418
Sinful Colors Black on Black
2 Coats NYC Sweet Candy
1 Coat Essie Good To Go

4th time stamping and I'm in LOVE. My decision to purchase the entire 2013 "Create Your Own" Collection from Bundlemonster was based largely on plate BM-418. I had to have it, and it wasn't available on its own. It needed to bring along 25 friends? Suuuuure... why not? The more the merrier, right?!? Thing is, without ordering the entire collection, I'm not sure that I would've purchased BM-416 OR BM-414. And look how well they all play together?

I didn't have issues with any of these plates, and I'm still using the stamper I got in my Fing'rs set from the World O' Wally. I am using a plastic gift card as my scraper, but that seems to la method du jour, n'est ce pas?

I seriously loooooove how this manicure turned out. Prosecco was just begging for a little bit of grunge. I answered with a lot, and then some! Paint splatters, swirls, fingerprints, radioactive and toxic symbols mixed with a little chaos and then topped with some more shimmer. (Because there's really no such thing as "enough" glitter.) I chose the pinkish/purple shimmer in Sweet Candy to add more sparkle and help balance out all that radioactivity. I especially like how the shimmer is practically non-existent over Prosecco, but really pops over Black on Black.

...and that attempt at a gradient? I don't hate it, but I don't really love it, either. It was actually supposed to be a gradient using SinfulColors Black on Black AND Secret Admirer, but I went a little overboard and all traces of Prosecco disappeared. Oops. Sooooooo... I painted on two coats of Sweet Candy, and followed with a black gradient on my tips. Done and done.

SinfulShine Prosecco

Every now and then, a nail polish comes along that captures the attention of the blogosphere. It's not even necessarily relegated to just nail blogs. Beauty and fashion bloggers alike sometimes jump in on the craze too. For Fall 2014... that polish is Prosecco by Sinful Shine. Behold! (hey, I haven't said that in a while...!)

Prosecco by SinfulShine

Polishes Used:

1 Coat Beauty Secrets Ridge Filler
3 Coats SinfulShine Prosecco
1 Coat Color Club Clear Coat
1 Coat Seche Vite

So, I know you're wondering... what's so special about Prosecco? Is it the slightly purple leaning, grayish, tan? The super-fine shimmer that packs mainly gold but also flashes copper and green? Combine those and add in the fact that this shade is so flattering to a wide variety of skintones, and we've got a winner, winner, chicken dinner!

When it comes to application, Prosecco is sheer, but builds nicely. I used 3 coats for my swatches, and I probably should've used a 4th. Also, my Seche Vite got a little hungry and decided to eat the edges of my tips on some fingers but not others. Which is weird, because I wrapped all my tips. So... yeah. O.o

I like this shade a lot, but not to the point that I'm keen on keeping it on any longer than normal. I've gotta admit, that's kind of disappointing. Normally, when a shade is this sought after and I acquire it, I want to enjoy it for a while! Definitely the case with SinfulColors Cinderella... not so much with Prosecco. But I do think it will make a great base for glitter, nail art, or possibly stamping. So... there's that, I suppose!

What do you think of Prosecco? Does it live up to the hype?!?

State of the Sparkle *005*

Is anyone else in total denial that October is more than halfway over? Like, when did that happen? Just me?!? Okay, then... moving on! So...... what's been going on at Chez Sparkle you ask? Weeeell...

Continuing on with things I'm totally in denial about... Peanut turns 2 on Monday. Two? Wasn't she just, like... born? I know I've said it before, but who gave her permission to actually grow up and get bigger? She's mommy's baby and I totally have her trained to say that!

her "look happy" face
There was a party last weekend with Mr. Sparkle's family and this weekend it's a party avec moi familia. We do birthdays right around here, which means it's at least a week long affair. Peanut definitely approves of this tradition...

in it for the "happy day" cake

In nail news... I'm seriously in love with this manicure. It has totally reaffirmed my need for China Glaze Isle See You Later, and perhaps definitely the entire Sunsational Collection from Summer 2013. How did I miss out on it?!?

When Chez Sparkle becomes a reality and not merely wherever 2 gypsies reside... I want to do this. Perhaps even with the exact same shower curtain...

...and this. I loooooove a good mix of grunge and glam.

http://www.seizethesparkle.com/2014/10/holiday-no-buy-2014.html

It's Day 2 of my 2014 Holiday No Buy... or #HNB2014. Since it hasn't been that long, I'm lumping this week's update in here. Everything is going well so far... my 12 Treats Fund is at $4.47 after last week's leftovers. Yay! :)

In addition to joining Crumpet's Nail Tarts and participating in the 52 Week Pick N Mix Challenge... I also recently joined Hobby Polish Bloggers. No lie... I've already learned sooooo much and I've only been a member for a little over a week!

Speaking of which, thanks to a question asked by another member... I learned how to link my picture to the about me page AND added some really cool social media icons with the help of this tutorial.

Last, but certainly not least... yesterday, the hubby surprised me with a box of chocolate and a bunch of my favorite flowers! I adore wildflowers, specifically daisies... this bouquet included those, a tiger lily and a sunflower! *swoon*

Peanut's reaction to les fleurs? She's been smelling them, (by blowing air out of her nose) tickle-tickling them, and giving them kisses. Ridiculously cute!

It's going to be a busy weekend and I hope to share some pictures from all of our festivities early next week! Happy Friday, and as Daniel Tiger would say... Have a grrrrrrriffic weekend!

Polishes Used:

1 Coat Beauty Secrets Ridge Filler
3 Coats Bonita Starry Night
Sally Hansen Archipela-Glow
Spoiled Champagne Siren
Sally Hansen Archipela-Glow
2 Coats Color Club Clear Coat
1 Coat Seche Vite

Originally, I wasn't planning on doing such an involved manicure last night. It just happened to turn out that way. After I painted on the first coat of Starry Night, I realized how pretty it would look with a glitter gradient on my tips.

Starry Night could probably be a one coater for some. I painted on my 2nd coat to be sure everything was even, and then realized I hadn't wrapped my tips. Oops! So, I added coat #3 and moved on to the glitter gradient. After sponging on one coat of Archipela-Glow followed by Champagne Siren, I realized I probably should've started with the latter! Another coat of Archipela-Glow helped the gold glitter in Champagne Siren blend a little better with the teal in Archipela-Glow and Starry Night.

I'm pretty happy with the way this gradient turned out. Looking at the finished product, I realize that it would've been easier for my to use Nail Junkie from Sinful Colors! But, come on, where's the fun in that?!? Plus, I actually like the fact that the gradient is a little different on each of my nails.

Now, I know that this is a little bit behind, but I'm counting this manicure as the first in the 52 Week Pick N Mix Challenge. Because of being behind for the #31DC2014... I'm starting late, and to be honest, I wasn't sure I was actually going to do it. But I'm going to try and give it a shot. Just not sure if I'll be posting on my own time schedule or trying to catch up! I'm only 2 weeks behind, so catching up wouldn't be sooooo bad. We'll see how that goes. Since this challenge is longer and a little more sporadic, I'll just be tagging it in my posts here as 52WPNMC, rather than in the post title like with the 31 Day Challenge.
